One of the most pressing challenges of our time is making sure that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy decent standards of living, education and employement. In our country, this is not different. As part of our Education programme, we develop several projects for supporting the needs of Mongolian kids so that their future remains filled with hope.

Within a scenario of widespread poverty, such as the one faced in the “Ger” areas of Ulaaanbaatar, children are particularly affected. Because their parents’ income is variable and frequently not self-sustaining, there arises a need for applying to job posts that prevent them from looking after the kids at home, while at the same time they are unable to generate enough money for paying for proper day care and education. This hinders the progress of children who, otherwise, could grow up to become better drivers of Mongolian economic and social prosperity. However, the good news is that this issue — being so widespread globally — has been studied extensively, allowing Caritas Mongolia to develop best practices to make sure that children are not left behind.

Currently, we offer a Day Care Center (DCC), focused on a small, though significant, portion of the kids suffering from those issues. As providers of care, our main goal is to establish a comprehensive framework for dealing with the most vulnerable aspects of their lives: from education to hygiene; from social integration to nutrition. On the other hand, we also hope that the parents of such direct beneficiaries — being assured that their offspring is being taken care of — seize the opportunity to secure meaningful income for each family, something that provides additional benefits from our project. By promoting this two-pronged approach, we expect to make an impact not just immediately, but also on the long run.

Of course, we count on your support for expanding the footprint of our DCC, always improving the services we already provide, adding new offers, and incrementing the number of children we look after. In practical terms, in consonance with our Strategic Plan for 2017-2020, we expect to renovate our current building, as well as to build a new one for housing an actual school. Both of these facilities are expected to host even more qualified teachers and other staff members, as well as various pieces of equipment that will allow us to act as a government-certified center for top-notch education and healthcare for kids.
